How do I know if I qualify for an official volunteer team?

You can submit your application(s) and find more information about the unique eligibility requirements for individual roles on our Volunteer Hub!

Each volunteer role will have unique eligibility requirements tailored to its responsibilities and objectives, which you will see under the unique application for that role. There are, however, some universal guidelines that we consider when reviewing applications for volunteer roles beyond tutoring:

Applicants currently in high school who have not yet applied to college will receive preference, as part of our commitment to supporting community members applying to college. Please note that this preference does not apply to volunteer roles related to College Advice or the Tutoring Operations co-lead role.

We value diversity of thought and aim to provide volunteer opportunities to as many community members as possible. To achieve this, preference will be given to applicants who have served on four or fewer Schoolhouse volunteer teams, regardless of their position within the teams.

Roles that are part of the tutor growth path on Schoolhouse and/or directly related to supporting a Schoolhouse structured offering, such as volunteer roles associated with the SAT Bootcamp, will not be counted in or toward any eligibility policies for volunteering.

Community members are limited to serving on a maximum of two volunteer teams concurrently, regardless of their position within those teams.

Each community member is capped at serving for a maximum of two co-lead terms during their tenure at Schoolhouse.

In rare circumstances, a product team supervisor may make an eligibility exception for a volunteer based on the needs of the team.

Please note that in order to become a Coach, you must first build an outstanding track record as a Senior Tutor. Learn more about the Tutor Journey here.
